At the congress 'Anonymization for Secure Data Usage', leading branches heads came together in Lübeck from April 16th to 17th, 2024, to present and discuss the latest findings and innovative approaches to data anonymization. The program of the “Research Network for Anonymization” spanned two days, highlighting the five central competency clusters: AnigeD, Anomed, Anymos, AVATAR, and IIP – each representing a specialized area within the landscape of anonymization.

One of the highlights of the event was the panel discussion about the challenges and opportunities that anonymization technologies bring for secure data usage. On stage, Engelbert Beyer from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Professor Esfandiar Mohammadi from the University of Lübeck, Matthias Marx, spokesperson for the Chaos Computer Club, Christian Zimmermann, senior expert for cybersecurity at Bosch, and Matthias Steffen debated. The discussion benefited tremendously from the interdisciplinary composition of participants from politics, business, and research, enabling a focused dialogue and exchange across boundaries. The results and impulses of this congress are likely to have a lasting impact

Anonymization is clever data protection

Data protection is crucial to safeguarding privacy. However, it often limits the potential of digitalization in Germany. The “Research Network Anonymization for Secure Data Use” is working on developing technologies to make data usable for services and innovations in an anonymized form.
The aim is to drive forward new digital applications in areas such as mobility, medicine and administration.
