Successful cooperation - Innovation Day at Aarau Cantonal Hospital

Prof. Dr. med. Philipp Schütz (Head of the Medical University Hospital, Chief Physician and Head of Department, Vice President Research Council, KSA), PD Dr. med. Angelika Hammerer-Lercher (Chief Physician and Head of the Institute of Laboratory Medicine, President Research Council, KSA), Matthias Steffen (CEO, FUSE-AI), Dr. med. Felice Burn (Head of AI & Data Science CoE, KSA)

Lots of impetus for the use of AI in medicine at the presentation

On May 29, the ‘Day of Innovation and Research’ took place for the second time at the Kantonsspital Aarau KSA, Switzerland - focusing this time on the topic of “Artificial Intelligence in Medicine”.

Matthias Steffen presented our close interdisciplinary cooperation project together with Dr. Felice Burn from the KSA, which began with an initial meeting at the German Radiology Congress in 2019. The result of this collaboration is the certification of Prostate.Carcinoma.ai as a medical device. The development of this software would not have been possible without the Cantonal Hospital's commitment to AI in radiology.

Important milestones in our collaboration was the acquisition of data provoded by the KSA, allowing us to start working on data engineering.

Afterwards, we carried out data processing and model training. Based on testing, our AI product was integrated into the cantonal hospital's PACS software and was validated in practice.

Our collaborative success: At the end of 2023, Prostate.Carcinoma.ai was approved as a medical device according to (EU)MDR2027/745.

An especially important aspect of the collaboration was Dr. Burn's constant scientific support for the development of this AI software. In 2021, Aarau launched a multicenter study that ultimately proved that the use of our AI enables considerable time savings during MRI analysis while maintaining the same diagnostic outcome.

As a pioneer in the use of AI in everyday clinical practice, the KSA is convinced that the use of AI enables improved medical care.

High-ranking participants were attending the event, including keynote speakers, the panel discussion and the audience. T-Systems Switzerland, our business partner, also attended this event.

We are looking forward to continue our development of further AI products in the field of radiology in partnership with Aarau Cantonal Hospital.
