Job Description
As a Senior Research Engineer at FUSE-AI, you will work at the intersection of computer vision, medical imaging, real-time software development and robotics. The role focuses on building the perception and navigation components that link preoperative imaging with the real surgical field, enabling precise, image-guided intervention as part of a publicly funded research project.
Design and development of surgical navigation software, including registration and real-time data processing
Development of machine learning / deep learning approaches for MRI and other medical imaging domains, from model design to deployment
Planning, implementation and integration of software components
Feasibility analyses of problems regarding computer vision, artificial intelligence and robotic assistance, and the development of suitable solution strategies
Support in the selection and integration of suitable tools, frameworks and technologies to improve our development and deployment
Systematic evaluation and validation of developed approaches, as well as further development and optimization of our products/projects
Independent study of state of the art knowledge
Qualification and Competences
A successfully completed degree in (technical) computer science, medical engineering, robotics, physics or a comparable scientific discipline. If academic qualifications or further education are not sufficient to demonstrate software engineering, programming and development-related skills, evidence of an equivalent level needs to be demonstrated.
Several years of experience in computer vision / image processing / 3D perception
Experience in machine learning / deep learning as a confident user of established methods
Experience with medical image analysis and image registration
Proficiency in real-time, performance-critical software development, in particular C++
Experienced in Python and AI-related frameworks
Experience in working on Linux-based infrastructure
Knowledge in common computer vision and imaging libraries (e.g. OpenCV, ITK/VTK, PyTorch)
Experience with processing of image, depth or spectral data
Proficiency in software engineering in collaboration with Git
Competent in concepts for software development procedures, agile project development methodologies and project management (e.g. Jira, MS Project, etc.)
Competent in requirement engineering regarding to usability and clinical indication
Good communication in balance with respect, kindness and feedback culture
Hands-on mentality and problem-solving mindset in accordance with best practice and requirements
Independent structured manner of working and interest in collaboration and further development in an interdisciplinary team
Proficiency in German and English communication
Nice-to-haves
Knowledge and understanding of medical and clinical workflows, ideally in the context of surgical navigation or image-guided surgery (e.g. 3D Slicer, MITK, IGSTK)
Experience with medical image segmentation
Experience with robotics software frameworks
Knowledge of medical device regulations (EU MDR, FDA, ISO, etc.)
